“Between the inhale and the exhale, there is space. And in that space, we are free.”
What is World Breathing Day?
A worldwide invitation to pause. On April 11, millions of people around the planet stop what they are doing and take three conscious breaths together. That is the whole protocol. Three breaths.
Why it matters
We live in a world that is permanently exhaling. This day is the reminder — a nervous-system reset performed at the same time, by strangers on every continent. Research shows a few minutes of conscious breathing lowers cortisol, reduces anxiety, and improves focus. It costs nothing.
When and how
April 11, every year. Pick any moment in your day. The simplest version:
- Inhale through the nose. Four counts.
- Hold gently. Four counts.
- Exhale through the mouth. Six counts.
- Repeat three times.
Less than a minute. Done.
The bigger idea
For those three breaths, a million people are doing what you are doing. Some in Lagos, some in Buenos Aires, some in Mumbai. None of you know each other. That is the point — not the exercise, but the togetherness of it. A small reminder that we share more than we usually notice.
Want to practice now? The exercises are right here, free.
Mark your calendar. Tell a friend. Take a breath.
